This webinar presents the use of the Opera Finite Element Suite and the dedicated Machines Environments for the analysis and characterisation of Switched Reluctance Machines (SRM). The specific drive requirements of the SRM involve a different modelling approach than the one normally used for synchronous, sinusoidal-driven, electrical machines, with dedicated drive circuits and switching patterns. Similarly, the evaluation of specific machine outputs, from flux lines to iron losses also requires a different approach. New developments in Opera and the Machines Environments designed to increase the throughput of the analysis process for SRM’s will be discussed. These new methods offer machine designers and engineers a more integrated approach to rapid prototyping of SRM’s. Along with results from electromagnetic simulations, Opera’s multiphysics capabilities allow a complete evaluation of the device in a fully automated way, taking into consideration requirements linked to thermal and mechanical effects as well.
