Opera users from North America gathered at the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, NV for 2014’s event, which took place on September 23 – 24 2014.
Presentations were made by some of the Opera users attending, including Argonne National Laboratory, General Atomics, Electron Energy and Antaya Science & Technology. These covered a range of applications, including particle accelerators and electrical machines, as well as some novel ways to use Opera.
This, being the 30th anniversary since the beginnings of Opera, there was a time to reflect on progress over the years, as well as presentations by Cobham on the latest developments and future plans. Multiphysics featured in a big way, especially the capabilities that will be introduced with Python integration, and delegates also got a sneak preview at the forthcoming 2d interface improvements.
The conference dinner, also in the Trump Hotel, gave another opportunity for Opera users, Cobham staff, distributors and resellers to have informal discussions, as well as during breaks in the days’ proceedings. Some delegates also took the opportunity to stay on for the 2 day training classes on Multiphysics and Advanced Electrical Machine Modelling, which followed the User Group.
Delegates particularly enjoyed the informality of the event, as it gave everyone an opportunity to learn and stimulate their colleagues with new ideas in electromagnetic and multiphysics simulation. There was lots of enthusiasm for the 2015 meeting, probably around the same time of year, and we look forward to bigger and better things as this becomes the “must do” event for Opera users.
